Interesting topic. Running up and down three floors became unappealing. Property and school taxes kept going up & up. HOA assessments and rules were getting outrageous. Luckily, I had decent neighbors. There wasn't enough room in the 2 1/2 car garage for one car, much less two. A freezer, riding lawn mower, gas and oil cans, weed whackers, rakes, just about every tool, fastener and lubricant under the sun, along with shelves and bins to hold them; fertilizer, spreader, potting soil, pest control stuff, pump-up sprayer. Jesus! and I had to use all that stuff too. Then, there was the pool! Plus, the increasing encroachment of urban blight.
Years ago as a young boy, I had helped my Uncle cut cross ties and load them into the mule drawn wagon. As we were making our way out of the woods back to the house, we were carrying on and while I can't remember the particulars of the conversation, something he said stuck with me all these years. "Son", he said, "It's the lead mule that gets a change of scenery."
