What do I need for a new Toy Hauler FW

I’m pulling the trigger on purchasing a new TH FW. My question is what should be on my list of ‘things needed’? This is as it pertains to the FW itself, not camping. Camping I know about (from many years in a popup), working a FW trailer I have zero experience (we started here at some point, right?:)).

Like should I have 2-bys boards for leveling under the wheels or some fancy leveling blocks. What is the preferred wheel chocking method. How about some sort of extended broom to clean off the slideout roof. Give me your thoughts. What are the ‘must have's’ and the ‘nice to have's’.

Thanks for your input.

Speaks at least a couple of volumes.

    "GiveMeTheRoad" -
Get thee over to the *Toy Hauler* Forum (here) - sure Toy Haulers are mostly 5th wheels these days - but better to chat with the folks that *haul* their toys in their fifth wheels.

IMO - You'll find the majority of 'em over there..;)

  • I don't know if toy haulers come with 6 point auto leveling systems. But if they do, get it. We bought a 2014, 39' Solitude with it and absolutely love it.

The same truck that pulled the pop up probably isn't gonna work for the Toyhauler...;)

Actually it will! It was a bit too much for the PU :B I always got the 'what do pull with a rig like that?' question. Now I'll me more in line.
  • X2 on the 2x8" I carry several for leveling and beveled the ends to make then easier to drive up on, especially when you need several. X-Chocks for locking the wheels(http://www.rvpartscenter.com/FindaProduct.asp), regular chocks also but they don't always work when on leveling blocks. They also help stabilize the trailer. I also carry several 4x6 cut to abt 12" to put under the front and rear jacks so they don't extend as far and increase the footprint. A small electric leaf blower will clean the top of a slide before a cat can do his thing.....

A large bubble level mounted on the front of the pinbox visible from the drivers seat makes side to side leveling easy. Have the dealer install and calibrate it on his LEVEL (hopefully) shop floor. I carry a 2' level in the basement where the front jack controls are for front to rear leveling. A wiggle high on the front and then run down the rear jacks to bring it back to level. Nice and solid.

    You'll find more.....
  • 2 x 8s cut about 14" long beveled end, heck of a lot cheaper than plastic blocks. If you are near or pass a home construction site when they are framing up, you can usually get cut offs from their dumpster that are just right.
Been through the sweeping off bit and there's no easy answer except a push broom cause their handle is longer to start. My preference was toppers on the slide.
Gonna need tie downs for the toys, Tractor Supply here has them on sale now, 4 for $10. Outside mat for under the awning is nice to have. The woven plastic one will let the dirt and water through.
And bring your get ready to have fun now.
