  • At a 90* angle, a longer pin box only moves the 5th wheel out, not farther to the rear from the cab. Cab clearance (or lack of same) at 90* is determined by 1/2 the width of the 5th wheel versus the distance from the pivot point (kingpin or ???) to the rear of the cab.

  • I have a 2001 28ft cardinal.
    are there different slider hitches.
also can you change out the pin box to make it longer
  • In my 2014 Ram CC short bed I went with the anderson ultimate for weight savings and cost. With my new 2015 Montana HC I can go almost 90 without hitting, but get on a funky slope or loose concentration and pass the 90 and I think id hit the cab in a heartbeat.

I will look for a good deal on a used Superglide when the budget allows but for now I am happy and careful.

  • Did you order a 5th wheel prep package, not sure what Dodge calls it. Should have a 4 puck mounting system for the 5th wheel plate.
  • Factory prep B&W RVK3600 place head in rear position no slider needed with extended kingpin on newer RV.
  • There are many who have towed for years with short bed and no slider and never a problem. There are also those who have knocked out a back window or dented a cab.
  • If your trailer is 8' wide, and if measuring from the trailer to your truck is less than 48" at some point in a turn you will hit. Depends on angle of turn and if you are in a depression or not. Like what was said above it's good advise.

If you plan to do lots of traveling a air hitch does save a lot of wear and tear on the trailer, but they are pricy.
  • First off, what trailer do you have? It makes a difference.

NOT REESE!!! Those things are trouble

I would look at the Anderson Ultimate if you have a shortbed. I just put one in my FIL's truck and it made it where he no longer needs a slider at all. You are going to see guys next tell you the only hitch you can use is a B&W and they are great but that Anderson is a piece of art in it's simplicity and function

  • In my experience its better to have a slider and not need it than the other way round, cabs and rear windows get expensive to repair.... My Pullright came in useful when I least expected it to on several occasions. Nice truck by the way, you must post some pics of it when it comes in!
