Thanks guys for the sincere feedback.
Yes, it is a large 45' custom built Teton (used) which we plan to live in full time. We don't plan to travel in it much but would like to be able to control the ability to relocate whenever we would like too.
I knew I was probably dreaming to be able to find a "one size fits all" truck.... figured I would probably have to re-think my options. It may be I will have to hire a driver to relocate the trailer until I can afford something that will work.
I do have some/little semi truck driving experience in my past, also drove a 45' bus for a while and still keep my class A CDL current so I kind of understand the benefits of the larger truck. But with a class 7-8 truck it will not be practical for me to use towing my 20' cargo trailer into neighborhoods.
I think a class 6 truck is what I am going to start looking for...seems to be a compromise. It will be more truck than I need most of the time and yet still enough truck to relocate the trailer when necessary. And I don't mind it if the truck will not climb hills on cruise control...I'm not the kind of driver who feels like I have to have the latest and greatest truck to race up the hills.
I don't mind spending a little more money for the right truck but absolutely will not buy something newer than 2007 and deal with all the emissions again. I tried that once with one of the 2008 big names and had nothing but trouble keeping the turbo clean.
I guess if after some time of looking I determine I need the class 7-8 truck then so be it....I will go to two trucks....a basic 1/2 ton for everyday chores and park the semi and maybe "loan" it out to fellow RV'ers like me that need it two times a year.
Again, thanks guys for the opinions.
