- abc40kidsExplorerSo I did have your same problem, big cooler with no place for it. My truck bed was full of fire wood, 50amp cord..... I would make the cooler the last thing I put in the camper and put it right as you walk in the door. Last in and first out.
- glazierExplorer III used a big cooler for years, always set it inside the camper at the door. We now use a Yeti Tundra 65, and set it in the basement. My Yeti would fit in front of my hitch until I put my bed cover (Retrax Pro) on, it lacks 2" to fit behind the hitch and close the tailgate.
- jrs1871ExplorerWe have a crew cab and the cooler goes in the back seat. The seat behind the driver lifts up and the cooler fits there nicely. That way when we get groceries, the cooler is readily available for the cold stuff. And we don't have to mess with putting it away if we are gone from the campground for any length of time. To drain the water, we just pull it part way out and open the plug. Works for us.
- zackyboy3rsExplorer500lbs? Carrier weighs 50lbs at most. 1 layer of drinks & ice & cooler should not be anymore than 125-150lbs. Just a thought anyway. Thanks.
- MFLNomad IIDepending on the width of your cooler, it should still fit in front of, or behind hitch, with a standard bed. I often carry a large Rubbermaid storage box in front of my hitch.
I have a 300# rated receiver on the rear of my FW, but would not want that much weight hanging several feet behind FW bumper. My concern would be the bouncing/chucking effect it may cause.
Jerry - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIII have a long bed so there is plenty of room behind hitch in bed of truck (between tailgate and hitch)
I guess you plan on carrying that big ole cooler full of drinks and ice on that cargo carrier in hitch on rear of FW?
Weight of cargo carrier PLUS 50 gallons of water (ice) PLUS drinks 48 cans/bottles PLUS weight of cooler.........500 lbs ???
