When we went on a cross country trip this summer, I used a small portable Hornady gun safe. It came with a cable to attach it to a truck seat frame or whatever else I wanted to use. I could move it anytime with minimal effort. Any safe that you are going to carry with you is just a deterrent for someone wanting to get something quickly.
