You can register (both) in South Dakota, without physically going there. SD has 3% sales (excise) tax, and *dramatically* lower license fee/s than CA (especially for the trucks).
Contact any one of the mail forwarding services in SD such as "Americas Mailbox" for more information.

Registration for us looks more than likely Texas through Escapees or my wife's cousin has a street address there we could also use.
California is another option, I've heard vehicle & RV yards will let you use there lot as a street address. Anything for a sale. :D
