I would think it foolish to jump two load ranges. I think the LR D would suit you fine. Any tire can and will fail because of a nail or bolt that was picked up along the road, but it's always the tires fault. The stuff they put on at the factory is minumal it's true, but proper inflation, avoiding running over curbs, avoiding potholes when you can and overloading your rig all lead to less trouble down the road. But, it's always the tires fault when it fails.
