We have been using Whirlpool separates fulltime since '06...the only problem we have had was an errant dime found it's way to the pump. As for shaking, when I installed the dryer on top of the washer, I used cargo straps over the top to cinch the pair through the floor to the frame structure below the floor...they have not budged since the installation. As a rule, top load machines do not have the higher spin rate of a front load machine.
