The dispersed camping up South Mineral Creek can get pretty busy. Plan on close quarters and lots of noise. Drunks are a greater threat that pot heads or meth heads. Bears are the issue in the Silverton area.
Another option in that area is Eureka CG east out of Silverton. $10/night for most sites, although a few have electricity for $25. This may be an even better place for someone with an ATV than South Mineral Creek. Link
