Ditto. - wandering1ExplorerWhy would a car dealership know anything about how to install a fifth wheel hitch? Start wit an RV dealer or a hitch business.
- ependydadExplorerAnother vote for a hitch shop or independent. I had mine installed by someone on the dealer locator on the B&W web site.
- DannyAExplorerI had mine done at Camping World, good price and I'm well pleased with the quality of work.
- Mile_HighExplorerThe best place is a specialty hitch shop, but if you bought it through your RV deal, the RV dealer will most likely install and they are the next best.
I've traded trucks twice - and one Dealer farmed the hitch work out to a specialty hitch shop and they did fine, the next Dealer did it themselves and tried to tell me some of the bolts required by the hitch manufacturer weren't necessary. I asked them to install them anyway and they did with reluctance.
:R
PS - Camping world is a hit and miss. Around here I wouldn't let them install a bumper sticker. - Pangaea_RonExplorerCall around to both RV dealers and hitch shops to get equipment and price recommendations.
Prices can vary wildly for the same or similar equipment. A bit different situation, but I just called to get a 2" aftermarket receiver installed. Price from the dealer was $841 and from a hitch shop it was less than $300.
Describe what equipment you think that you want in this thread and get recommendations. Probably more "suggestions" than you want. - OakmanExplorerBest to have the RV dealership install the hitch since they will set the unit up properly for bed rail clearance.
- mileshuffExplorerFind a local shop that specializes in hitches. I find RV dealers are very lacking in their knowledge of the various hitch types and proper installation. They often only sell 1 or 2 brands, usually lower end tossed in as part of a deal when purchasing an RV. A shop that specializes in hitches is a far better place to go.
- darsbenExplorer IIWhoever you pay will install the hitch. There is no one answer. It could be RV dealer, Car dealer, UHAUL, camping world or an independent garage.
It is your money you decide who gets it
