Our fiver in our signature is a high profile triple slide 4 season model that weighs 16k lbs loaded with 4k lbs pin weight. Our truck has the G56 manual transmission so it is derated on paper but tows the trailer with absolutely no problem at all and gets a solid 10-11 mpg towing it. The Cummins just purrs along at around 1700 RPM and never sounds like it is working hard or straining. We love all of the features in the Laramie, it makes long distance travel a dream. I have had a handful of recalls done which is somewhat annoying, but my dealer is really good and I actually got a $450 dealer credit for my trouble. The General tires that came with the truck are junk, but I certainly can't fault the truck for that. I will replace them with Michelins when the time comes.
The exhaust brake is also excellent and I find I often need to give the truck some throttle when descending the large mountain passes here in BC because it begins to slow too much.
Some people on various forums have spoken about loose feeling steering, but I have not experienced this. This truck feels much better than my previous Ford F-250 and F-350.
The stability is also excellent which is to be expected for a DRW truck. Our trailer was sideswiped by a new driver while travelling home last weekend and the truck was in total control at all times during this incident.
I was a die hard Ford man until I bought this truck and have no regrets. If I were to replace the truck today it would definitely be with another Ram/Cummins DRW.
Any of the latest truck models tow and handle better than trucks 10 years ago.
