Whoops!

As I closed the rear slide of our bunk house, I noticed that the slide sounded a little funny and slowed down. I did stop the slide almost instantly, so I thought. My walk to the rear showed me a rear bathroom door handle pulled through the door by the slideout. Ouch! No slide out damage but the door is shot. I could have prevented this by 2 ways. First, I could have made sure the door was closed before bringing the slide in. Secondly, I could have replaced the battery in the remote so I could stand there and watch the slide come in like I usually do. So much for being lazy.

Now as I am pissed at myself, CW throws salt in the wound. 85$ for a new door, not bad, but 100$ for shipping. LOL

Any suggestions for a repair? The door handle basically pulled through the door, hinges are fine and door jam is fine.
  • Can you buy a hollow core door locally and make it fit?

Or get a local RV dealer to order the door and include it with their normal order helping keep the shipping down?
  • How about a home entry knob set with a decorative plate around it? Depends on how big the hole is.
  • We had our sink insert pop out and get jam a bit during our kitchen slide going out....small indent in the wall, slide was not damaged. We no longer let the slide go out without checking inside first.

Live and learn, that what experience is all about.

    Good Luck.

  • How about also using a checklist. Took several accidents before I finally made one.
