To me the two big advantages are the shorter overall length and the superior towing characteristics. The big tradeoff is you lose some of your bed but there are ways around that, and you don't lose all of your bed by any means. I think at shorter lengths it's kind of a push, but once you hit 30' a fifth wheel is s better option imo.
