"We have had rv's for 45 plus years and being able to get to the refrigerator when we travel and stop for lunch or a break is important to us. You can't do that with a rear kitchen unless you put the slide out. Which is not possible in a rest stop.....Just saying...."
So wrong!
We have had 3 Carriage 5th wheels with slides and rear kitchens and still have one with the wonderful rear kitchen and I can guarantee you that you never have to move a slideout to access the frig or anything in the rear except one cupboard at most. Never have we had ANYTING break move or fall move from any cupboards etc or open since 1988 with our first Carriage in our 50 years this year of RV'ing. That's a long time and several hundred thousand miles of RV travel all over the USA and Canada and over all kinds of roads and bumps. Yes, we always have lots of fragile glass items in the rear of our 5th wheels. Buy cheap, get cheap and what comes with it!
The rear kitchen offers so much more true and handy like home counter space and it keeps all the food in one area of the RV which means far less tracking of any spills etc in the living area. Is your kitchen at home located on the side of the carpeted living room and main traffic path? Why then have it in your RV?
Yes, the frig usually has to be on the passenger side of the center of the RV and that's right where we want them anyway as it's so clode and handy. We'd never buy an RV that has to have the slide deployed to even enter or use everything necessary anywhere. The kitchen, frig, dinette, bathroom, full bedroom, and access to all clothes or chilly/cold/rain weather clothing needs. If we can't use the necessary features at anytime anywhere without opening a slide even an inch, we simply wouldn't buy it ever!
Yes, good shocks on the trailer or 5th wheel are very important whether it has a rear kitchen or not. Something most cheapie trailers don't have or offer and you read on forums and hear about from others as to the constant results.
We've had several trailers and MH's with side kitchen and hated them and the wife says NO MORE and I couldn't agree more either! The big back picture window on the RV's we had with them were incredibly hot in the rear with the sun hitting it or cold and a draft running down the window when it's cold outside so you keep the blinds or shades or curtains closed in summer. In the winter, it must also have a storm window etc and still have the window covered or it fogs bad, sweats and drips water. Very little middle ground of time of year to enjoy a view!
