We have had our 5th wheel 3 days after having a 31 ft Class C I pulled a Jeep Liberty with. Living in a very mountainous state it got old hearing that V10 Ford gasser screaming for mercy with every long grade we would climb. Not to mention getting 7 mpg doing it.
I always noticed guys with big fivers and diesel trucks were climbing the passes much easier and doing better in the wind. So, sold the MH, bought a Dodge Cummins and went 430 miles one way to Bend Oregon and picked up our 2016 Wildcat 262RGX. Pulling it home was more comfortable in the truck and it went up the steep grades in California and Nevada without effort. Much more relaxing drive and 10.5 mpg.
If we lived in a less mountainous area that did not put so much strain on the gasser, we probably would have kept the MH. The biggest drawback to the fiver is the steep steps climbing into it as well as getting into the bedroom. Not a huge deal now, but we are in our 60's and it will only get tougher the older we get. We really wanted a diesel pusher so we could keep towing the Jeep, but they are just out of our price range and didn't want the high maintenance costs that go with an older one.
