Question

I have a 2014 Ford F-250X XLT 6.2L V8. What would be the best weight RV Fifth Wheel to choose (8000K) ?

Check your vehicles weight/towing capacities! The FW pin weight will be around 20% of its weight, loaded weight, what you will be carrying when camping. You will also need to weigh your vehicle with the passengers and gear you will have thenadd 200 LBS. For the hitch. That should give you a ballpark of where to start looking. I fell into the same trap as you did, I purchased my truck first, then went looking for FW. You might have to pass on some just because of the weight! Good luck!

Either your manuals that came with your new truck, or Fords Towing site on-line will give you the numbers you desire. My guess is you will be looking for fivers not much above 8,000 pounds, but much depends on pin weight.  Keep in mind how much added weight you will end up putting on the truck and trailer.  We added well over 2,000 pounds just on the fiver.

If you look on drivers door jam, it will give you payload wt for your truck as equipped. It will read total wt not to exceed xxxx.You will have to figure all wt you will put in the truck, including about 200#s for the hitch. Now just subract that from wt listed on the sticker. The wt left, will be useable pin wt for FW.A FW with loaded wt of 8,000, at 20%, is of course 1600 appx pin wt. At 10,000 loaded wt 2000#s etc.The 6.2 with 3.73 gears will handle 10,000#s actual wt in all conditions. If you have 4.30, I would say up to 12,000.My 13 250 has a door sticker payload of 3,232.Jerry

What rear gears? 4wd, 2wd? Reg cab, Scab, Supercrew? I don't think you'll want to town more than 10,000lbs depending on where you live/ Check your door sticker for payload. You need to concentrate on the 5'ers dry weight, not the GVW. Most people add around 1000-1500lbs for gear. IMO with that truck(?)I'd look for something in the 8500lb dry weight. Make sure you get the dry weight from the 5'ers shipping sticker and not off the brochure or internet brand site. Those can be several 100lbs low. Figure on 20%+/- for pin weight. You have plenty of truck for most midsize 5'ers. You probably have the payload capacity to handle a decent size 5'er but unless you have the 4.30 gears you may not want to tow much over 10,000lbs loaded.

I traded in a 2011 F250 a few months ago. My biggest trouble with the truck was the pin weight. I had to but air bags on, and knew if I had to do that I knew I was way overweight. Ford F250s need a towing package, as well as towing package.. Other wise they are not really adequate with a 5th wheel. Mine was the diesel, so had plenty of power to tow, but just could not hold the load. Want to upgrade the 5th to larger unit, so bought F350 dRW with 6.7. Cannot believe the difference the DRW and also long bed over SRW, and short bed. You must go off the tag on door and don't go over it and you will be fine.
