Worries of going from a long bed to a short bed

I've had a Pullrite 16K Superglide with under bed mount (for clear bed with hitch out) for 13 years.
Absolutely no issues with hitchup, unhitch, or unexpected U-turns.

The OP was asking about a 2014 Chevy/GM. Your signature shows you with a 2004 F350. How does this help? All short bed trucks are not created equal.

I also have a 2014 Chevy crew cab short bed with a Super Glide 16k hitch mounted to a superrail kit. I'm very happy with the combination.

My dealer stated he never opined on short bed trucks and FWs because he never knew for sure until a particular FW was hooked up to a particular truck that the front corner cutouts would allow the combo to get to a 90 degree turn. I believe he was correct. I can get close, but not to 90 degrees with my combo without sliding.

I too use a Pullrite Superglide with the under bed super rails. Never any concern with hitting the cab. Pullrite has super rails for the 2014 Chevy SB.

Pullrite also makes a B&W adapter for the superglide which may help in the op's case.

My '02 D'max 4x4 (see sig) will =not= hit my very square-front FW turning either right or left at full lock, when going forward. ALL will hit when backing up; a slider gives you a bit more room before you DO hit. If you have any qualms, put your Companion on Craigslist and order a Companion Slider. Won't be =any= problem selling the old one; just don't short-change yourself, as they do bring a premium. Personally, when I get a new FW, I'll set it up with my '02 and see how it performs. If I feel I need a slider at that point, B&W will again be my choice.

Not enough info... Hard to say what issues you'll run into without knowing your trailers front cap design or areas where you camp and have to manuever. Best thing to do would be to hook it up and find a level parking lot (preferably gravel) and start doing some backing maneuvers with a spotter watching for cab clearance.

The answer has more to do with how observant the OP is under pressure. The auto slider gives you more leeway. If he is a very diligent man, he may always be able to change the situation and avoid hitting without a slider.

Every truck + fiver + driver combination provides different results and opinions. Personally, I think it should be based mostly off driver comfort over anything else. Do you want to run the risk of being the guy that posts the picture of the cab dent and busted rear window? Chance of it happening are higher if you don't have a slider.

I've been running a Superglide for 9 years, no regrets. If I were doing it all over, it would be a tough choice between the Superglide and a sidewinder. But the Superglide will work with the Moreryde pin box, so that may sway it.

It's your decision, you have to decide what is best for you!

I tow with a 2015 Silverado 3500 w/ 6.5ft bed. I also use a B&W turnover ball w/ a Companion hitch. I've had no issues towing our 5er without a slider hitch. It all depends on where you camp and the nose on your 5er.
