Your favorite space heater?

We are using a Hunter Tower Ceramic heater that has a fan (very quiet) for the first time and am very impressed with it. It will also osilate. It keeps our 30' fifth wheel quite warm. This weekend we are on the Oregon Coast with temps near freezing at night and it keeps the bedroom area warm enough (we like a cool bedroom). We will run the furnace a bit first thing in the morning to bring the temp up quick, then don't hear it after that.

We now have 2 little tower heaters that I picked up on a garage sale this summer. Paid $3 each for them and with one up in the bedroom and one downstairs they worked good enough this fall that I never ran the furnace this fall. We were using an Eden Pure which IMO are junk and a waste of good hard earned money.

These heaters I have now are made by Lasko and have a footprint of about 6"X6" and stand about 2 feet tall. They have digital read out and thermostats on them as well. Great little heaters for $6

This is very close to them only a little newer version.

Tower heater

Next season we will now have an electric fireplace that Santa brought us this year. I just need to finish getting it installed once it warms up enough that I can run the slides back out.

Oil filled, most efficient and quiet

Love the small ceramic ones for the small footprint and speed of heating. Love the oil filled radiant for the quietness and safety. I have both and use them as needed to supplement the furnace.

Great points on the thread are that ANY 1500W heater puts out the same amount of heat and space heaters are inherently dangerous (compared permanent heat sources like furnaces). Yes, it may not just be the heater but the extension cords and/or old electrical systems with other problems that the heaters can be plugged in to.

I'd love to know people's favorite fanless, low wattage, lightweight heaters.

I have a 300 watt from home depot, fits in my pocket. But it is made with a bare exposed element on the top, so is very dangerous.

Fan free is important to me because of allergies.

First, as someone already stated, make sure you're getting heat to your basement one way or another when it gets down to freezing temps.

I am sold on the oil filled 'radiator' style. I have been using one for a couple years now and I like the gentle heat it puts out. The maint disadvantage is that they do not put out instant heat - it takes a little bit to warm up the oil. The second disadvantage is that there is no fan to circulate the heat, so I sit mine under the overhead fan in the living room. Works great. If no overhead fan, you might sit a small oscillating fan behind it. Mine has the tipover feature, a remote, can be set to a specific temp, and has both a 750 watt setting as well as a 1500 watt setting.

Note that you get the same amount of heat from all 1500 watt units no matter the size or expense. Having said that, it sure seems like mine puts out a LOT of heat for it's size once it gets going.

I also sleep easier at night when it's running, as opposed to some of the other types. It doesn't seem to get as hot (to the touch) so I don't worry so much.

Cheap Heat !

Prior to that in last RV we had enough of the junk heaters spent the $$$ and bought two Dyson's, very expensive but they worked GREAT.

If you want an electric heater to run while you sleep, I vote for the oil-filled radiators as they have 3 power settings and a thermostat. I had a small $30 Holmes for my bathroom and once it popped and smoked, I wouldn't trust that type for use while sleeping.

This is the true scientific answer. All 1500 watt electrical heaters produce the same BTU's. BTU is a measurement of heat.

The difference between a 14.95 cheapy and a 99.95 one are features, bells and whistles. Heat is the same.
