The most important issue here is that you are aware of the numbers and limitations. And if you operate that truck/RV combo with that in mind you should be OK. What is scary are the folks that really have no clue the weights they are towing and what their truck can safely handle. Somebody might have told them 'oh sure, your truck can handle that' and they happily go their way. Ignorace is not bliss when towing heavy.
I totally agree! I can't tell you how many times I see people at gas stations in a half ton truck towing a 35ft tow behind and the bumper is almost dragging the ground that scares me. My truck with that engine and tranny does good. My dad used to have a 97 f350 powerstroke and towed that 39 ft Avion and now tows with the 2500 HD and says it does fine and gets better mpg's. His trailer weighs close to 20K.
