If the original tires were LT's with over 6000 lbs of capacity on 5200 lb axles, why would you even consider an ST tire? No need for more capacity, no need for less clearance and certainly no need to get into the questionable ST tire environment. My previous unit had 5200 lbs axles and I switched from STs to LTs. Will do the same thing with my new unit, even with 6000 lb axles, I trust LTs much more than STs.
Update: 1st trip with the new trailer and guess what? The ST tires probably had 1500 miles on them from the factory including one round trip to the dealer. Now the unit was on the dealer lot for 16 months, but hey, ST tires are designed for infrequent use. I thought I could get one trip out of them. But for caution decided to leave today rather than Sunday. Just 80 miles and one of the steel belted ST tires blew. 60 mph, 80 degrees. Fortunately no damage to the unit or rim. Managed to get to a tire shop before they closed. Now 4 new LTs so I can enjoy the rest of the trip.
