The real issue for me is that I always felt like a house was a huge burden on my lifestyle including financial, soul & body. Never did enjoy it always knowing there was something that needed maintenance or repair or would soon. Or simply the idea that there was something wrong that I didn't know about and sooner or later it would bite me (termites, etc).
We don't have the cash to take care of the "deferred maintenance" (translation: things we should have thrown buckets of money at just to keep it looking good), and we have a second, so I have no idea how we'll get out from underneath this.
Maybe the biggest plus for RV living is the mobility - that is huge! Try moving your stick house when a tornado is headed your way! Freedom and mobility trump everything else for me.
Yeah, sure, RVs have maintenance and upkeep too but the fact that they're so much smaller and self-contained eases the burden considerably.
Depreciating asset? Yes, but I can live with that all other things considered. And cost of ownership is a tiny fraction of a house. Plus, buying/selling is so much easier. I could go on and on but you get the idea.
Sold my last house in 1987 at market bottom and never looked back. There was an immediate relief and feeling of freedom which remains to this day.
