Weber Smokey mountain as listed above may be the best bang for the buck in quality and results
The smallest version of the green egg would be tough to find a fault with.

We just bought a Weber Smokey Mountain 14" smoker and are LOVING it. Do a google search, and you will find that this smoker is the one everyone tries to beat, although in the 18" size. We wanted to carry it with us also, but a brisket is going to be tough to do in the 14.

If you want some good SC pit cooked BBQ and like vinegar based you can not go wrong with a trip to Hemingway and drop by Scotts BBQ. (you can google it). Really good stuff. It is your basic "hole in the wall" kind of place which I have always found has the best food.
