Small Smoker ???

Been pondering the same question. Thought about mounting a box on the rear to store it in or even doing a bumper mounted smoker but concerned about getting the back of the camper dirty. Thought about making a box to fit in bed of truck to stow it in but don't really have any help to move it. Would probably be awkward to try and move it around by myself.

I like to offset wood fired smokers. Traveling with firewood is such a no-no, but the pellet smokers might be an option.

If I had a toy hauler I'd just put it in the back and go.

I've been turning this over in my mind, too...how to accomplish the job without using a lot of storage space is key for me.

I'm contemplating using the regular portable propane grill for the meat chamber and building an add-on out of stovepipe or something that could channel smoke/heat into it at a controlled rate. This is how many combination BBQ-smoker setups work, and it seems to me that something could be cobbled together to do the same job. The grill wouldn't be connected to the gas, of course, and since it wouldn't be getting high fire temps I'm not worried about damaging any of the gas components. And it'd do two jobs instead of just one.

My grill doesn't have a hinged lid, so the idea was I'd build a "collar" that raised the lid enough to allow for a cutout for the pipe...firebox itself to be an older portable, guts removed.

Yes. I've had this Brinkman for about 5 years now and it works great. You have 2 choices, if your old unit is a Gourmet model then keep the base, if not, but SS bolts and wing nuts to put the legs on this one.

This will break down and take little room, and you can put your chips etc in it while traveling.

Search for Smokey Joe smoker. It's a great little grill smoker that you make yourself. Similiar to those Brinkman Tall Smoker but about 1/4 the size. Great to smoke one chicken or a small brisket. Works great and easy to make. Cost about $50 to make. Can use it as a smoker or just a kettle BBQ. Great size to take camping. PM me for tips on how to make it.

Traeger now makes a small portable pellet smoker called the PDG. I have not used the portable, but all of the other Traeger smokers do a terrific job. Check it out.

Checked out your suggestion on Traeger PDG. It runs on 110volt and $299. I don't think that would be suitable for camping in the woods and traveling the a Trailer. Thanks Smokey Joe DIY is more suited.

a few years ago we attached a Smoke Daddy as can be seen in the 4th picture in this link .... additional comments and pictures can be found here .... as can be seen in the links, a Smoke Daddy can be attached to most grills and offers the option to cold smoke .... we often cold smoke cheese .... ours is compact, easy to attach/remove and produces excellent smoked food

How about the small size green egg. My old neighbor and my brother have larger sizes of these smoker/cookers and love them. You can google and find it.

I happen to see this on a side ad today. Great price on a smoker that will do reasonable amounts of food, like a butt or a whole chicken, that can be broken down. This is a good price. I also have the electric conversion, but to be honest it's probably not worth the money.
