Buying RV Lots In SW Florida

Prior to full timing we spent almost 30 years visiting SW Florida every winter for vacation. The areas we frequented were all south of Sarasota (Venice, Punta Gorda, Fort Myers, Naples)

As full timers we now spend 5 months each winter in either Fort Myers or Fort Myers Beach. We are spending tons of money to rent a space in an upscale RV park each month. There are some lots for sale in the park but they range anywhere from $80,000 to over $100,000.

Has anyone found an RV park with the following:

1. Located within 2 miles of beaches
2. Allows RV's up to 40' long
3. Lots for sale between $25,000 and $50,000
4. Can put Park Model (800 - 1200 sq. ft.) on your RV lot

Our idea is to purchase an RV lot and use it for our winter stays in our 5th wheel for the near future. At some point in the future possibly have a new park model placed on the lot. Ideas?

Actually not as funny as you think. Palmetto Palms is a gated RV resort on Summerlin, approximately 1.5 or 2 miles from both Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel Island causeway. It meets almost all my desires, except your RV can't be longer than 35' or so plus any future park model can only be about 30' x 30'. Just in the last couple of years there have been lots/units sold there for under $70,000.

But I agree, being closer to beaches will no doubt cost much more.

With the size restrictions, that is why the price is lower. This is NOT the average rate in the area. As a matter of fact it is probably the ONLY park in that price range.

It is also $20.000 over your own specifications.

  • In the Ft. Myers/Naples area?

I have researched virtually EVERY campground in the area.

Sorry, not going to happen with your specifications, unless you do find a widow getting rid of it cheap. I would imagine that current park residents would have an inside track and snap that type of sale up rather quickly.
  • The closer you are to the beach the higher the prices. Here's one 3 miles from the gulf $45,000.

  • Lots of people in our camping club have purchased park models in Florida. Watch for a widow or widower wanting to practically give one away to get rid of it.
