Canadian Difficulty finding Insurance for Full Timing

I am looking at purchasing a new fifth wheel to go south to the U.S. For winters and back to Canada to seasonal site for summers. I can't find an insurance carrier who will write a policy!

My insurance broker told me to stay clear of RVDirect. Does anyone have any experience with a. Provider in Canada?

Thanks
  • We have been full time for 5 years. Our 5th wheel is insured with Aviva through Elite Insurance company. Our broker is Western General in Calgary. I discussed our full time plans with our broker and had no issues with changing the policy from part time use to full time use.
  • We use AVIVA also for Full Time RV living, and insure the contents also. It's always beneficial to photograph or video the contents, if you are Full Time, since this is your home now.
Put it on a disc and send to one of the kids. That way if something should happen, at least you will have a record of the items you had.
  • I use Wayfarers as well and I believe they do all provinces not just Ontario.
One piece of advice I can offer though. Don't let an insurance company convince you that they can give you a better price if they bundle all your policies together. While it may well be true what they don't tell you in the result of a claim on your RV. If for example you put in a claim for your awning damaged in a windstorm, it will affect all your other policies as well.
Wayfarer also gives you a discount if you belong to Good Sam and Explorers.
  • In Ontario we use Wayfarers Insurance broker and the give us fulltimers insurance through Aviva Insurance Company.
  • Oh my goodness,I would check with other brokers,if you are only talking about your fifth wheel. Is it because of your address or lack of.We did that for years and had no problems, with SGI in Saskatchewan.Maybe things have changed here too.
