Here's the latest. Just got my class B exempt yesterday (10/15/25) everything requires an appointment. Did my written test in Bowie Texas on 10/1/25, I printed and filled out all the forms ahead for time, you can do them there if you choose. They do one driving test per week and I was lucky and persistent enough to get one on 10/15/25 This is a small office away from the DFW metroplex, only 3 employees. The ladies there were all very helpful but as mentioned previously you can't call an individual office and the automated is one shade above worthless. We actually made the drive up there once just to ask questions. Study section 14 in the manual, I did way more than that because I'm just that way. the test was 20 questions, not hard but you need to know section 14, I missed 2. Driving test day. I had to fill out more forms, one of which I had already filled out but you do what you gotta do. First thing on the test was an air brake check, you should know how to do one but this was more informative than anything. Next we head down the road, nothing tough, at one point had to stop, she got out and had me back up for maybe 100 feet. On we went, on the highway, off the highway and back to the DMV. I got dinged for 9 points, you can miss 30 and still pass. I didnt get all the explanation but I know I didn't come to a perfect stop once and I probably got my nose past a stop sign once or twice. My advice, be nice, be patient and be friendly. The lady that gave me the driving test was professional and wasn't out for a joy ride. Know your stuff and you'll be fine.
