We are in a similar boat. We are looking at hitting the road in 2020, I'll be 50, DW will be 50. To young to collect SS, but I have a military retirement, and healthcare. All the number crunching I have done, I will need about $300K to offset my retirement and be able to live comfortably untill we are into our 80s. By then I suspect my children will be hanging up my keys, and taking me to Walmart on Wednesdays.
We are buying our Coach in about 2017 and living in it fulltime and rent out the house. I can live in a campground close to work, and keep working another couple of years living off my military retirement, and saving every thing I make at this job. Should be able to save enough to be set to go. I think we will still workcamp at various places for a couple of years to keep us busy. So looking forward to it.
Your plans look good, and would work well for us. My concern would be your potental health care costs.
