I have an additional question on this topic. We have a home in NY (will be up for sale in the spring, after my double knee replacement), then will live 1/2 the year in our new RV in NY, 1/2 the year in Idaho (in a condo)..and maybe take the rv for 3 mos each winter in Florida. My question is this: the rv will be delivered this week, and we'll have 30 days to pay a hefty 8.5% sales tax & pay large registration fees; if we still own property in NY, is it okay to change everything over NOW to a more-rv friendly state (SD or FL)? We will lose our NY primary residence discount if we do this, but that's peanuts compared to the sales tax we'll face when we register the rv here.
I realize this would mean a trip to SD for our driver's licenses. We're just not sure if we can do this legally while still owning property here in NY.
Anyone have experience in this area? Thanks!
