Was thinking about heading to Orlando,Florida to pick up a 42 foot Class A diesel. I have never driven anything bigger than my RoadTrek van 20 foot length.I was going to try to find a RV driving school in Orlando area to take a RV driving course. I would feel a lot more at ease driving it back to CA. Any suggestion for an RV driving instructor in the area?Do all states require a RV class drivers license? Since I am driving through a few states I want to make sure I am covered.Thanks,Steve

Only the license restrictions for the state that issued your license apply. Other state's license requirements only apply to their own residents.

As Dutch said, the state proving your license is what's important. The other factor to consider is you insurance may not cover you if in an accident & you do not have a license your state may require.

A driver's license from your state should suffice. If you are going to California you should be aware that there are some highways you cannot legally take a motor home longer than 40 feet without a different license. Don't remember the details , but you should check them out.

If you are licensed in California you have to have a extra endorsement for motorhomes over 40 feet regardless of where you drive them. But if your lic is from another state then the rules of your state apply, even in California. However, there are roads where you can't drive a motorhome over 40' and that applies to all motorhomes regardless of where you are licensed.

Yep that's a new rule in Nevada as of 2 years ago, but its a non commercial class A license, they even dropped the R rated for double tow, anyone can double tow up to 70 foot and under 26,000 lbs, over must have a class A license non commercial..

Go get it but when you get back to Vegas you will need to upgrade your license, you have to go to Loosey and Craig to the commercial DMV and take a test and test drive in your new motorhome and if you pass they will issue you a non commercial class A licenses.

Come to Washington State, State law does not require a Special License to drive a RV. Anybody can get into a Class A and drive for 24 hours straight if they choose regardless of there experience or health (really scary to me). Why don't you have the person your buying the RV from teach you how to drive it? Congrats on your new coach!
