Excited NEW Fulltimers starting now

Well I guess we have bitten the bullet. We are as of today moved out of our home. Giving away and selling most all our belongings. Moving one of our kids and children into our home and we are in the motorhome full time. EXCITED about this. Learning a lot. We have been staying in the Class A for about 2 months straight but had access to our home when needed. Now we don't. Have a place to hook up on our property when we are between trips so we can see family and such. Wife to retire in about 2 months and we are off. Nervous but ready for this new adventure in our life. So much to see and do in our beautiful country. Any suggestions are appreciated as we have much to learn.

  • Congrats.... Know that it's different for everyone, and you'll "learn" as you go! Slow down, take the time to stop and see things or do nothing at all! We became full-timers on 6/1/14 and we thought we should be doing or going somewhere everyday, boy have we learned different. I think it takes a while to settle in and figure out the flow of things. We love being full-timers, never know what or where we'll be!! Don't be afraid to stop and visit with others...everyone has an interesting story......good luck!!
  • Best of luck to you and hope you'll love the new lifestyle as much as we did. Don't rush and don't put in long driving days. Be parked by 2 or 3pm and enjoy the rest of the day. Join the Escapees RV Club and use their parks. You'll be surrounded by full-timers and lots to talk about and help, if needed.
  • We second the recommendation to join the Escapees RV Club. We have been members for over 20 years. Full timed for 10 years (1996-2006)and bought a lot at the Escapees Rainbow Plantation in Summerdale, AL. We built a house there in 2006 and only RV about 5,000 miles per year now. We have used the Escapees mail forwarding service for most of the past 20 years and highly recommend it.

As others have said, you will need to get out of vacation traveling mode and slow down. We found that over time we did not want to average more than 50 miles per day (drive 200 miles and stay 4 days or don't exceed 1,500 miles per month). You may find that you are comfortable traveling more or less than 50 miles per day, on average, but that's what worked for us.

    Enjoy your travels!
