Firearms into Canada

Greetings...We are full-timers and plan to head up the east coast next summer and then into Montreal to visit family. I am wondering about the hassle of bringing a firearm and how much trouble it really is. I would not be able to leave it somewhere at the US border because we plan to head west from Montreal and re-enter the US at a different border crossing. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

  • IF you have to take it with you then ship it from one US location to another. And don't leave any ammunition in the rig.

While certain types can be taken into Canada with permits the border agent can always deny you entry.
  • Lets not start this again.

    SHORT VERSION.
    leave all handguns at home
long guns for hunting only, summer is not hunting season.
  • Long gun or handgun- handguns are mostly not allowed into Canada. You should check with the province(s) your going to as they can differ.
