Full Time living in Mesa AZ in the summer-what rig to buy?

I would love to hear from anyone who’s lived full time during the summer months in the Phoenix/Mesa, AZ area during the summer.
I would sure like to hear what brand rig you have and how your unit coped with the extreme heat. We want to buy a 5th Wheel and make Mesa, AZ our full time home until we retire and can snowbird (in about 5-7 years).
Thanks very much!

We always headed for the high country North and NW from Phoenix to get out of the high heat.. The high country starts at Payson which is just a short distance away. These back roads may not be good for large trailers however...

We typically ran our Jeeps pulling small utility trailers with camping gear loaded in it. Now the Truck campers built for OFF-ROAD is very popular around those parts... Check in with MELLO MIKE in the Phoenix areas for some tips...

Check out the Superstition Mtns around Apache Junction just a few miles away from the Phoenix metropolitan areas. Couple of nice full service camping sites around there at the beginning of the high country off-road trails... ALot cooler there than it is in Tempe and Mesa for sure...

Got to build a high metal shed to park your trailer under when in the heat...

The difference in temperature from Phoenix to near the Superstitions is, at best, negligible. I live in far east Mesa, we are less than 5 miles from the Supes and less than 2 miles from AJ,and our temps are within a couple of degrees of Phoenix. While our nights may be cooler than phoenix by 5-6 degrees our days are still HOT! I would never stay in an RV in the summer here in the Valley. If the OP has pets is would be even more imperative to get out of town in the summer. YMMV.

  • I recommend getting a stick-n-brick house or apartment for the summer. I've suffered through triple digits in my two trailers and it sux. I'm done camping in the heat. I go up to the White Mountains if I find the need to camp.
  • The best "rig" for AZ in the summer is a house. I doubt that any other type of rig would be livable here.

  • Sparky - you'll find that most, but certainly not all of the readers use the NEWEST button in the upper left corner and not just a particular sub section such as 5th wheels, TTs or MHs.

This is because most of the subjects apply to more than one sub section whether you use the RV for just the weekends or live in it full time. The same with water heaters, refrigerators, tank valves, where to pull a long rig into to fuel up an so on.

When I posted linked your post from yesterday I didn't even realize it was your post. I just thought it was someone asking about the same question. By linking yesterday's post it saves people from answering again today to someone asking the same question.
