We have a Class A and full time. We prefer the Class A and tow a 2008 Chevy Colorado 4x4 4 door pickup. We like the Class A because it's easier to set up and break camp. Also I can use the potty while DH drives down the road! He likes that I can get him a snack and drink while we travel. There are pros and cons to each RV type. Only you can decide what you like best. We use military campgrounds if the reviews coincide with what we're looking for. We don't like rustic out in the boonies campgrounds. Just our preference. Some do have monthly rates. www.militarycampgrounds.us is where you can look at them and read reviews.
Our second choice is Corps of Engineers campgrounds. Most are water and electric, some have been upgraded and have sewer. Most are on lakes, rivers, etc. and are beautiful. Great price. If you are 62 years old or disabled, you get the camping for half price with the America the Beautiful pass. Check for that on www.nps.gov
For reservations for Corps of Engineers and National Park campgrounds, use www.recreation.gov
We also like state parks. Some state parks give discounts to seniors.
If we can't find a good military, corps of engineers campground, we then look at commercial. Some commercial campgrounds have great monthly rates. In high tourist areas the rates are a lot more expensive so depends on what you want to pay. We're staying in a beautiful little commercial campground in TN that charges $450 a month plus electric.
Be sure to read reviews of campgrounds on www.rvparkreviews.com before you go. Saves a lot of grief.
