full timing & mail

My DW and I are considering full timing and have one question, What do you do about getting mail? We have about 95%of our bill on auto-pay through the bank, but there is other mail that we get like magazines, etc. Where does that get delivered?
thanks
  • Most full timers pick a state friendly to full timers and use a mail forwarding service in that state.

There are several things that make a state friendly - let you use your mail service street address on your drivers license, remove you from the jury duty rolls, make it easy to register to vote and to become a resident, no state income tax or tax on dividends or interest income.
The three most popular states are SD, TX, and FL.

We picked SD and use Alternative Resources for our mail forwarding. They can also provide help and services for your change in residency.
They have some good info on their site in the link above.

We stopped all magazines and junk mail when we went full timing. If we want magazines we purchase them.

Doing this will also determine IF you really want/need the magazine, but another option would be to read them online. Most magazine's can be viewed online and at a significant cost savings.

  • Or, you can do as we have for our past 13 years fulltime. Ask a friend or a relative to allow you to use their address as yours. It's a legal address of record (never a question asked). We provide our friend a supply of prepaid priority envelopes {conveniently sent without charge by the PO) and roughly once a month we speak with him and weed out the garbage (70% of it) and he sends on the rest. In the interim, he will alert us to anything that seems important (such as the Publishers Clearing House notification that we've won the 77 gazzilion dollars!).

We send him a lovely X-mas present.

Seriously, it's a win-win-win. We get our mail when and where we want it. We don't pay for unwanted **** and pay no monthly fees for the privilege. We keep in touch with an old friend. What's not to like?
  • Howdy!

X2 for Escapees we've been using them the last eight year and received great service.

  • There are a number of mail forwarding services that you can select. We have used two services -- both of them were "pack n ship" mail services, one in Green Bay, WI and one in AZ.

Basically, all your mail goes to one of these services. Then when it piles up (or on a regular basis), you have the mail forwarded to your current campsite.
