I have a media player for my TV with a removable hard drive. The kids have loaded it with 336 movies and 23 TV series. The entire series, not episodes or seasons. All of the Sopranos, Homeland (to date) just about everything on TV.
It cost me about $100 but they're about $50 now. A 100 gigabyte hard drive is another $100.
The bad news is because kids loaded it there are a lot of vampire TV series and movies. (We don't watch those) And they get a little ambitious in their downloading, so a couple of them have been accused of piracy.
We share our library around the campground. Some even have something to add to the library. I'd like to find someone with a collection of Nature & Nova. Our kids don't watch a lot of PBS. Though to be fair they've asked us "What do you want? We'll get it!"
What kind of hard drive and how do you hook it up to the television?

Something like this one. Though mine has a removable hard drive, which they don't make any more. Now they come as one unit with an internal hard drive.
It just plugs into the TV with one wire. Even I can do it (and I don't even have a smart phone) It plugs into one of the spare HDMI ports on the back of the TV. Then it's run by it's remote control.
Sounds like something I'll look into. I have a ton of Ken Burns PBS shows and National Geographic specials I'd like to take along for rainy nights!
