I strongly suggest you test this theory out before jumping in with both feet !
Many of your location do NOT have Internet service at all. Wireless "hot spots" may or may not work for you depending on signal strength and how many others are trying to use that cell tower. If your work demands hours of a good solid connection, I would be concerned.
Even places that do have free Internet service (WiFi), it is not going to be the best.
If you are a night owl, that is a plus. Usage of these free services is less late at night and very early in the AM. A good external, high mounted 2.4/5.0 GHz DIRECTIONAL antenna will help a lot for 802.11g and 802.11n.
