I don't know of any real cons. The fuel you burn running the generator is mostly offset by not running the dash A/C.
What are the conflicts you are reading? Maybe we can help you better if we know your concerns.
I doubt the fuel is off set by not running the dash air. I use to run both the genny an dash air in our jamboreee.
