So why are you staying with Kaiser and California if you're going to be full-timers. You can choose any state you want and there are much better ones than California. You might look into Texas, South Dakota, Florida for starters. It doesn't mean you have to buy a house in those states. You just change your address.
Don't give up your dream. There are ways to get around your problem. Investigate them or ask here. Good luck!
