Investigating Full-Timing (stationary to start)

My wife and I are looking at moving from Omaha, NE (apartment living) to Southern California (Inland Empire) to live full-time at a campground we like. We're not wanting to invest in a tow vehicle right away, so we're looking at buying our RV in the region, and having it moved to the campground instead of towing it ourselves.

We've been investigating RV designs, financing, insurance, energy costs, etc..., and spending some time at the local RV sales lot. We met a nice salesman whose parents full-timed for years. He was the one who actually recommended the above strategy to us. (We know he's honest, because he recommended we buy in Cali, not Omaha).

I have a number of questions I've been researching, but I'll just leave it at this for now.

    As a motorhome owner myself I would say a 5th wheel has better floor plans and home feel than a standard TT but a park model TT will have the most square footage.

    My family and I are doing this now. We live full-time in our RV. I have a full-time job in the local area.

    Having the RV gives us local options - there are several parks close to where I work, and we can move to another one easily, or even within a park as we just did last week. We were on a waiting list for a better spot, and it came available. Moved before 08:30 one morning, done and then off to work.

    If I end up taking a different job, relocation is simple.

    We can also easily take weekend trips right now, or longer vacations wherever we want to go. We both hate the hassles of flying, and don't have to worry about it.

    Eventually we plan to do a lot more traveling, but our daughter is only turning 1 and wouldn't remember anything we did now.

    @2gypsies I doubt we could afford it.

    @NoVa_RT None to be had at this school in Santa Barbara. There's lots of student housing in SB, but it's all undergrad, and is often sold not by the unit, but by the bed (for singles).

    The OP's plan could work, but I'd think grad student housing, if available, would be a lot less hassle.

    If you're going to live in a RV park I'd suggest you get a much more comfortable mobile home in a mobile home park.

    @DustyR we do plan to check what's available around the time we plan to move (next Spring-Summer), both as dealer and private sales.

    @Mandalay_Parr I may take you up on that.

    @DownTheAvenue The park we want to live at doesn't do mobile homes, and I'm not sure we want to settle in that hard. We are moving, in part, so that I can do a PhD program in the area, but we will also be working locally. Eventually, we'd like to be able to do some weekends at other parks in the region.

    @Bumpyroad I'm concerned about park models having enough space. 5th wheels seem to be able to a bit larger, with some storage beneath, as well, which park models don't.

    look into park models. but a mobile home would be better for full timing if you are pretty much staying in one place.

    Living permanently in a RV in a campground is akin to living in a mobile home park except RV's are not designed for that application.
