I always find it a little funny reading stuff like this and how FT'ing is viewed. You have the internet view, then you have the real world view which is a lot different.
To the OP, do what makes you happy is the bottom line. The percentage of FT'ers that follow the "move 200 miles and spend a week" plan are far and few between. Most can't afford that lifestyle and if they can they get burnt out after a few years.
Seems like all living creatures "need a spot." Your DW is no different. I know of many who live in their rigs 12 months a year and own a chunk of land to return back too. If for no other reason then to save some money, and have a home base near family and medical.
Like a prior post said, ask your questions in the snowbird (sunbird) section. Many have the same lifestyle that you are asking about.
