Medical Insurance for South Dakota Full Timers

We have been full timing for the last 5 years. Based with Americas Mailbox in Box Elder. My husband has Medicare but I'm only 54 so I'm looking for just a major medical plan for myself to cover us while traveling. Any ideas or perhaps you can direct me? Thanks in advance for any feedback!

  • Plus it was not available under the exchange, hence those eligible for a subsidy couldn't use it. Many under 65 full timers rely on the ACA subsidy to even be able to retire early.
  • Looks like there MIGHT be changes for SD Medical Options

Major Medical Health Insurance for RV’ers and others with a mobile lifestyle is now available in South Dakota! Wellmark Blue Cross & Blue Shield offers health insurance to those under age 65, who are not Medicare eligible, as long as they have a South Dakota address and a South Dakota driver’s license. Wellmark Blue Cross also offers Medicare supplements over 65 now.

Last I knew, SD was very unfriendly for Nationwide health insurance coverage.

SD does not offer any health insurance plans with nationwide networks. This is a deal breaker for full time RVers.

There are many states that currently offer health plans with nationwide provider networks, like BCBS PPO plans.

    See Where the PPOs Are.

I would suggest heading to the escapees forum for better info.
