- wannavolunteerFExplorerOne thing I do is wash dishes in a dish pan, and pour that water down the toilet.. more water in black tank with some soap to keep stuff from sticking to tank and keeps yucky water out of grey.. also helps grey tank not fill quite so fast.. easy to do and not a complicated chemical mix to worry about... I have found the hospital dish pans are perfect size for my TT sink. and sadly I have a plentiful supply since my dad was in the hospital about 10-12 times during his last 2 years..

IF you can smell waste tank odors inside your RV then something is wrong/broken.
Mechanical seals and vapor barriers prevent odors from coming inside.
Not necessarily. It doesn't take much for the fumes from the roof black tank vent to be pulled into the RV.
If it stinks, dump & flush if you can. Otherwise, pour some bleach down the toilet as a temporary fix. - BarbaraOKExplorer"Fresh" waste tanks - now there is something I've never been driven to try to achieve.
water, water, water is the key. If you don't use enough, you will have problems, so don't skimp.
Put rotating vanes on the vent stacks for the black and grey tanks to help draw any odor up and away from the rig.
Don't have the bathroom fan (especially if it is a Fantastic Fan) going while you flush the toilet. Make sure the toilet holds water in the bowl, if not replace the seals.
Put some baking soda down the grey drains and make sure you have water in the traps.
And, repeat this often, water, water, water.

They are waste tanks and as a fulltimer they will be used daily. Fill, dump, fill, dump, fill, dump.
Did you keep the sanitary sewer line at your house "fresh"? - paulcardozaExplorerTo keep the "fresh", don't use them. Others have provided excellent advice about odor prevention. Water, water, water.......

Hi All,
We have a new RV. We will be fulltiing in it for at aleast the next 6 months.
I really would appreciate any tips on keeping the grey/black tanks fresh and preventing odor buildup.
Thanks
Dan - old_guyExplorerjust be sure to leave the black tank valve closed until it is time to dump. or you will be sorry.

Toilet.....fill bowl to flush #2
Dump black tank when at least 3/4 level to full. High liquid to solid ratio works best at evacuating tank when dumping.
Dump black tank, use tank flusher then dump grey to use it as a semi rinse of sewer hose.
Add some water back into black tank after dumping so bottom of tank stays wet. Stuff won't stick to wet tank.
Don't over think it......you don't when using your toilet/sinks at home. - 2gypsies1Explorer IIIWe've just used plenty of water in 16 years of full-timing. No odors.
- EsoxLuciusExplorerIf anything other than just water is to be used it has to be Happy Camper.
https://www.5starhappycamper.com - FishinghatExplorer III also vote for just plain water. Your rig will have a vent pipe on the roof that exhausts fumes/odor from the tanks, just like your stick house.
