We'll then decide on Plan A - buy into a RV Resort as a base of operations and stay FT in FW, or Plan B - buy a small condo as a base. Either way, when we're not home, the lot or the condo be rented.
After 2 1/2 years, we are happy not having a 'base of operations'.
We even dislike having to come back to the Dallas area to see kids/ grandkids and doctors. We greatly enjoy visiting the rug rats, even the 40 year old ones. We just are long time fed up with Dallas.
We see no need to sink any of our money into a RV resort or a condo. Should health change to force us off the road, we will find a place where we want to stay.
Many folks live in their RV until the end of their lives. You don't have to have a plan for 'when you can no longer live in an RV' though some medical conditions would require moving out of the rig.
If the rig is sound and fits your needs, you can convert it into a permanent living spot at a great many RV parks or mobile home villages.
We do belong to a nationwide camping club, and use the parks across the country. It makes financial sense for us.
We know several people who have memberships in Escapee Co-ops which give them a base at minimal costs. We enjoy our stops at those Co-ops.
I don't discourage you from making the leap while physically able. I would just encourage you to conserve as much of your savings as possible and get a couple years of experience on the road before investing in a base of operations.
