New Adventure

DW and I started our new Adventure yesterday. I have never pulled a 5th Wheel before. It is a learning Experience. We learn from our Mistakes. When we got to Ringold, Ga I misjudged a Turn and I smashed up the side Panel Door on the Steel Barrier at a Gas Station. I made an Insurance Claim. It is still towable. We were headed to a Campground in Savannah, GA. We are currently at the KOA in Calhoun, GA. Now the first thing we are doing is to go to the Camping World in Pooler, GA to get the 5th Wheel repaired. I will post an Update later.

  • Good tip I got long ago was to always watch my Mirrors in a turn .and anticipate the blind side tail swing
When in doubt get OUT and look.Especially if you cant see in the mirrors. The tough lessons are sometimes the ones remembered! Good luck with the repairs. while your new and not sure be overly cautious !
  • The best thing I did when I first started out was take the RV to a empty parking lot, set up a few markers and try to miss them while parking, turning and in general backing up. Since then the second best thing I still do, when in doubt, is get out and look.

Hand held radios are pretty handy in just about any maneuvering task. I still see the DW outside waving her hands around and shouting directions while the driver not only can't hear her but can't see her either. Generally in these circumstances an argument between them is inevitable.

The radios have removed countless frustrating experiences for us.
