Numerous Jury Duty notices....

I got a jury notice late when my mail arrived. Emailed them I was traveling for the winter in state and just got my mail.
Got another 6 was later and same thing...
Another one forFeb 11 which I got on the 13.
Emailed I was not going to be in the area for awhile could I be excused.
Nope, I have to show up for 1 and tell the judge why I can't serve..

How do you handle this type of notice? I am 8 hrs away from jury location.
  • I'd ignore it and let them come arrest you. No, they don't do that.
  • With the email maybe you should have sent proof that you were out of state. A real letter with postmark would be better than email. Maybe the judge does not read email.
  • I got a jury duty notice (Virginia) while I was in California. I sent the court a letter from California saying that I was out of state and wouldn't be back in state in time to serve. No problem, I was excused.

I can't believe they'd expect you to travel to tell the judge you are too far away to serve. Sorta negates your excuse, doesn't it? What state needs you for a jury so desperately? (What, everybody ELSE flee that state, too?)
