Once Again I'm Glad I Fulltime

My home base site is a lot in a residential area and yesterday right after lunch there was a major water main blowout right across the street from me. The city water crew was on site promptly even being a Sunday, but there is a major AT&T cable running right where the water main is. Since I am writing this 17 hours after the blowout and the water is still off, AT&T hasn't arrived yet to mark their cable location.

Once again my RV pays off. Full water tank and I have all I need while my s&b neighbors are high and dry. I keep my fresh water tank full in the winter so I can unhook my external water connection on the nights it will freeze and we have had a lot of that in the past couple of weeks.

The water department manager has no idea when AT&T will arrive, but he told me last night his phone calls to AT&T this morning won't be pretty.

I think I'll have another cup brewed from the only fresh water available in this entire end of town.

  • Larry hit it for us. Down sized life. I know we aren't the only ones here that down sized from very large homes and love the freedom having wheels provides.
  • Ed, I had a similar situation just recently. During the recent icy weather that GA and AL had, my neighborhood's water system had a break. The break was quickly repaired, but we were under a "boil water" advisory for several days. It sure was nice to have water in RV for making coffee, brushing teeth, and cooking without having to boil it first. I considered moving out to RV, but decided against using up that much propane keeping TT warm enough to be comfortable, in case we had power outage and I needed to move in for everything.

Damn we need a "LIKE" button!!!

Where we live, they state and town are widening our main road.
Delays in getting AT&T out to move their cables have provided a TWO YEAR DELAY in the project!

That was exactly my thoughts. Our daughter was getting married in our back yard, and we rented large tents for the reception. In Illinios, you call JULIE (Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators) to mark all lines. Within two working days of your call to JULIE, a representative from each member utility company will either mark the location of their underground lines with paint and/or flags or contact you to let you know that their lines are not in conflict with the area in which you are planning to dig.

One company didn't come. We called again. They still didn't show. Finally, they came just as the tent company was pulling in and would start driving stakes.

Ditto X2. Yup, even when just stopping short term at a CG, if
I am staying more than 1 day I 'always' fill the fresh water tank all the way up just in case.

Still amazes me that when the CG has water problems and/or power outage that I am the only one not running around having a melt down that the water is off. Hello fellow Rv'ers, you all have a fresh water tank, fill it! There have been many times that I am the only one with water to use in the entire CG and a lot of my camping neighbors slapping their heads that they should have thought of filling their tanks!
  • Full-timing has given me an opportunity to downsize my life; I am currently staying at a campground not far from my S&B, which will be placed on the market for sale the first week of February. I am going over all the stuff I put in storage, selling some, giving some to charities, throwing some away, and keeping some in my RV. I expect to close my storage rental in February; that will save me some money as well as give me a sense of being uncluttered by stored household goods. Someone buying my house will further deepen an internal feeling of being free of my homeowner association and a house which I have rented out and not lived in for some time now. I am glad to be full-timing as well.
  • My S&B has 2 wells. One is hooked to a pump that requires power to run and one has a hand pump. I'm good to go either way.
  • I love knowing we can easily access our FW (it is in storage) in the event anything were to happen with our S&B property. Because we live in CA, we don't have to winterize so the RV is ready to use on a moment's notice. Of course, I don't know if we'll have any water come summer do the drought. lol
  • Wish I could leave water in the FW tank in case of emergency. Right now it is 2'F with a -10'F tonight and 2'F for a high tomorrow.

I do leave water in during both months of summer.
