First of all if you are not sure. Snowbird once to a warmer state. That will give you a pretty good idea if that lifestyle is for you BEFORE you start going and selling all your stuff and your house.
That said. I Snow Birded twice, liked it and then went full-time.
If you want to half time as you call it. Make the sticks and bricks house in the warmer state. Waay much easier to close up a house in the warmer state versus trying to close up a house where there is freezing temps, paying the utilities to heat it, etc. etc. Too much can go wrong with that scenario period.
I just bought a foreclosed home in the south. Added a pad and electrical outlet for the RV, and when all is said and done I will then become a reverse Snow Bird. Stay here in the winter saves those CG/electric fees and sardine sites, and then get the heck out of dodge before the summer heat hits. :C
