Rant about fulltimers

Well..maybe...

Once again today while perusing an RV Park Review (you know where) I came upon the statement praising the park for not allowing fulltimers "with all their junk and noise."

As I've been plotting our travels for the summer I've often read reviews denigrating the park for having fulltime/longtime campers, apparently as opposed to casual daily campers, and equating them to the Squatleys etc.

Where do they get off???
  • As full-timers, we traveled constantly and we used public parks which allowed only 2-week maximum stays. There is constant movement in those parks and they draw vacationers and weekend campers. It's a more active place to camp as folks bring their families, fishing rods, boats, games, etc.

So your question must be referring to reviews on certain RV parks. There's quite a difference with RV parks where you can rent long-term. Those parks attract folks that consider the park their home and they don't move. I wouldn't consider them full-timers. That is just their home. They are most likely still working or are raising there families. Some RV parks don't have strict rules or don't enforce them so then folks have a tendency to accumulate 'stuff' and a lot of it is left outdoors - just like living in a house. There could be more vehicle noise because of folks leaving early in the morning to go to work. Parks with workers or just permanent folks tend to have those folks staying more to themselves as opposed to a public park where people are friendlier and think nothing of stopping by to chat.

So when you read a review on those kinds of RV parks perhaps it was written by a weekender only there for a few days and not knowing what the park is like before he arrived it was a disappointment because to him it seems more like a permanent-type park rather than a travelers park that he was expecting.

I don't think the reviewer thinks of himself as better but instead he expected a more weekender-type park - just a different environment.
  • There are Full Timers, and then there are residents. Read the posts carefully to separate them. Fulltimers that travel with the seasons rarely spending more than a few days or weeks are first class.
Full Timers that do full seasons in north or south are another category. They tend to
gather like birds of a feather, and develop ' rules' governing their ' community' are less welcoming to short term travelers. Understandable. you are not going to become one of their 'family' . Think of snowbirds.
Then theres the residential side of camp of permanents wheather seasonal or all year, living in rvs by choice or necessity. They will likely be your quietest, most helpful, least judgemental neighbor.
  • So how different do they live, how much is that dependent on what the park operator permits, and what does that have to do with you?

I'm seeing a definite discrimination in the reviews between fulltimers/longtimers and "campers" as if they're so much better.
  • I've camped around full-time rv'ers and I've camped around full-timers living in RV's in lieu of a house or apartment and are working fulltime. They are definitely different in how they live.
  • Well there are Full Timers such as we were that TRAVELED constantly....never spend much time in any one spot

And then there are Full Timers that park there rigs and set up PERMANENT in RV parks and just Live in an RV

And then there are those that park for a season and then go back home or north or someplace else.

The 2nd type I mentioned ----permanent living in RVs ----well those CAN be intrusive at best. But that is the RV Parks FAULT and has no bearing on ME.

What others do, how they do it can have negative connotations BUT I don't care NOR do I dwell on it.
    Was too busy TRAVELING
