We went with National General through Good Sam when we purchased our new class A last year. We filed three claims with them and had great service each time. We renewed with no rate increase. In the meantime we relocated to Mississippi from Ohio due to my wife's new job. When we did an online calculation for the address change our RV rate with National General went from a little over $800.00 per year to over $5,000.00 a year! I should note that our car insurance carrier was a local Ohio company and would not insure us in Mississippi. Did some searching and ended up going with Geico on the RV AND the car for a rate just a little more than we were paying for the RV only with National General. We had to cancel National General.
A few days later a representative from National General called me to see if there was anything they could do because they saw that I canceled the RV policy and had requested a refund for the coverage. I explained the problem was with the outrageous rate increase as my rate had gone from $800.00 to over $5000.00. The caller asked if I would be willing to talk to an RV coverage specialist supervisor to see if anything could be improved. I had some time to kill so I agreed to talk to the other person. I was soon connected with the specialist supervisor and went over everything and there was no way he could get the rates to improve. He told me "it is what it is" and attributed to high rate increase to my new "garage location" in South Mississippi. He also said insurance companies compete through rate prices and if every company had the same rate there would only be one company. The conversation wasn't a total loss because this agents home office was in Northeast Ohio very near where we had moved from and had actually lived in South Mississippi near where we live now. We had a very pleasant conversation and he wished me good luck and hoped that the company could assist me in the future. Within a few days, the refund check was in our mailbox which we promptly put towards our new policy with Geico.
Outstanding experiences with National General (and I've heard the same from others). Hope we have the same level of service with Geico.
